If you want to receive fresh, locally-grown, mainly organic vegetables and fruit for your charity, Foodshare want to hear from you.

Foodshare has already been featured on BBC Breakfast TV and will soon be featured on Radio 4’s “Gardener’s Question Time”, which reaches 2.5m listeners. They’d like to help homelessness charities find a local Foodshare group, but in order to not miss this opportunity, you need to register your interest in receiving free Foodshare hampers by 28th January 2010. Foodshare anticipates a lot of people signing up to grow for Foodshare, and they’d like to tell them that your charity would be a welcome recipient!

About Foodshare 

We are a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation who are passionate about linking up growers with local charities,  providing fresh free food to those in need. We call it Food Philanthropy! 

Here’s how it works… Allotments and Kitchen Gardeners can choose to donate surplus produce and can also “dedicate a bed” to grow for a local charity. Produce is then collected and delivered to the charity throughout the growing season. Charities typically use the food immediately or if they receive surpluses, they freeze and store it for the leaner months.

By donating surplus food, we reduce food waste and by growing food locally we can provide the freshest, healthiest produce to charities, helping to reduce their increasing food bills. We also help reduce the distance food has travelled (“food miles”) which is essential to keeping our environment healthy.

 A charity can proactively start their own Foodshare scheme and find a local growing partner using our Guide for Charities.
