Business start up support campaign gets underway

A social media marketing campaign got under way this week (Monday Sept 2) to ensure entrepreneurs and new start-ups in Wales are armed with all the relevant information to make a success of their business.

Using a number of social media platforms like Business Wales and Busnes Cymru on Facebook, and the twitter accounts @_businesswales @_busnescymru, the campaign is designed to raise awareness of the wide range of help and support available from the Welsh Government.

The campaign supports the Welsh Government’s £17m Business Start-up Service launched in 2012 which has a target of establishing 2000 growth businesses and creating 6,500 jobs over a three year period and help 6000 people become self employed.

During 2012/13 support was provided to 3,721 individuals, resulting in the creation of 747 growth enterprises and 1,670 jobs, while a further 1,526 jobs were created by self employed enterprises.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

” Supporting new business start-ups and encouraging entrepreneurs is a key priority for the Welsh Government and I am pleased our dedicated service is already delivering results, creating jobs and helping to spread prosperity across Wales.

”Providing relevant and timely information and advice is vital to support the creation of successful, sustainable businesses and is particularly important for early stage start ups and people considering starting a new enterprise.”

The Business Wales website includes information on all aspects of running a business, ranging from writing business plans to legal requirements. It also features a number of video case studies of businesses that have benefited from Welsh Government support.

In addition to the website, business start-ups and entrepreneurs can access tailored one-to-one support and advice, including workshops on specific subjects, through the dedicated Business Start Up Service which operates throughout Wales.

The two week campaign (Sept 2-15) will be also feature an e-newsletter start up special and will be followed by a major campaign running from 21 Oct to 23 November leading up to and including Global Entrepreneurship Week.
