Disability received a boost this week after Sport England announced £190,000 of National Lottery funding for this year’s Special Olympics GB National Summer Games. 

Over 1,700 disabled athletes from England, Scotland and Wales will take part in the Games, competing in 12 sporting disciplines over three days.

Sport England Chief Executive, Jennie Price, said: “Sport England is very pleased to be working with the Special Olympics to offer athletes the opportunity to realise their potential and experience the thrill of competing in a major multi- sport event. We are strongly committed to making sport a practical choice for many more disabled people, and hope that the Special Olympics in Bath will encourage many more young people with intellectual disabilities to get involved in sport. I wish everyone taking part this week the best of luck, and hope they come away with some wonderful memories.”

Having the support of Sport England for what will be the largest multi-sports disability event of the year is very welcome.”

The 2013 National Summer Games is set to run from 28^th August- 1 September
