Reform of council meeting rules

"Local government is already the most open and transparent part of the public sector and the overwhelming majority of local authority meetings are open to the press and public in a way that isn't matched in Whitehall and Westminster. Councils rarely meet behind closed doors and when they do they will always explain why the decision has been taken and give the public the opportunity to challenge that decision.

"The LGA, on behalf of the sector, is already working on a new badge for councils to display on their documents and websites to make clear their commitment to allowing the use of social media during meetings. We expect to make that available to our members later in the autumn."
