Monitor secures improvements for patients at Cumbria hospitals
Monitor has secured a formal, legally binding agreement to ensure Cumbria Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust complies with clinical quality standards, offers good quality care to patients and its board has good oversight of how the trust operates.
The regulator suspects that the trust is operating in breach of its licence to provide health care services.
The health sector regulator launched an investigation into the trust in October 2013, following an independent review which highlighted the inadequacy of the trusts response to quality issues and the appropriateness of the Boards oversight. The investigation also took into account the subsequent CQC warning notices.
Under the agreement, the trust will implement the findings of a independent review into how it is run. These include a number of actions to ensure the trust has effective leadership. A Follow-up review will then be carried out to ensure the required changes have been made.
Frances Shattock, Regional Director at Monitor, said:
"Trusts must be well run if they are to provide high quality care for patients.
"The agreement we’ve made with Cumbria Partnerships will ensure that the changes that need to be made at the trust happen. Patients expect that these improvements will be made quickly and we will continue to monitor the progress the trust makes. We will take further action if we feel it is necessary."
