Department of Health confirms funding for four PFI projects
The Department of Health today confirmed continued financial support for four local authority social care PFI projects in England.
The projects to receive PFI credits are based in Leeds, Hull, Sandwell and Hammersmith. They will all provide community social care and health facilities for vulnerable people.
The successful projects include a centre offering general, respite and dementia care for older people and those with learning or mental disabilities, along with a leisure centre giving priority to disabled adults.
Care Services Minister, Paul Burstow said:
"I'm pleased to be able to confirm funding for these four projects which all promise a fantastic boost to their local communities.
"These ambitious schemes include plans to build bridges between health and social care. This is key to developing services that fit around peoples lives and deliver personalised care and support."

Hull :
Three Extra Care sites, providing a mixture of general, respite and dementia care, combined with a primarily residential development of seven centres for elderly people (including dementia care), and people with learning or other mental disability, totalling about 200 beds. It will include communal health facilities including treatment rooms that can be used by visiting healthcare professionals to support the care of those with long-term conditions; for District Nurses to use as a base for changing sterile dressings, administering flu jabs etc, chiropody, opticians, as well as a GP satellite surgery. It will also include facilities to support telehealth/telecare.
Leeds ( Holt Park ):
An Adult Social Care Community WellBeing Centre, part of a larger development at Holt Park which includes a new school and which has planned Extra Care accommodation for elderly people. It includes sports facilities as well as social care services.
Sandwell:
A sports/leisure centre where priority will be given to disabled adults receiving social care services.
These four building projects were among 17 that the Department of Health reviewed in late 2010.
