Measuring Quality – organisations in Manchester trial practical ways to measure the quality and reach of arts and cultural productions

A group of organisations in Manchester have signed up for the Quality Metrics Pilot, a project exploring ways to capture the quality and reach of arts and cultural productions. During a trial period at the end of this year, these organisations will test an app that allows audiences to rate their experience.

The aim of the project, which is supported by Arts Council England and The Audience Agency, is to form the basis of a method of providing an account of quality that can be used by funders and the arts and culture sector, to tell a richer story about the value of arts and culture.

The organisations involved in the Quality Metrics Working Group are:

Contact Theatre
Cornerhouse / Library Theatre / Home
Chinese Arts Centre
Hallé
Imperial War Museum North
Intelligence Agency
Manchester City Galleries / Whitworth Art Gallery
Manchester International Festival
Manchester Jazz Festival
Manchester Literature Festival
Manchester Museum
Museum of Science & Industry
Octagon Theatre, Bolton
Oldham Coliseum
Royal Exchange Theatre

Trials of the Quality Metrics software will take place across these Manchester venues in December, with the aim of producing a report on their findings early next year. If the metrics framework works in practice, the next step will be for it to be trialled on a national scale.
