The Group, established by Economy Minister Edwina Hart and chaired by Elin Rhys, Managing Director of Telesgôp, has been asked to recommend ways in which the Welsh Government and others can develop and deliver a strategy for jointly promoting the Welsh language and economic development.

Elin Rhys said the group is keen to hear the views of individuals, organisations and businesses across Wales on how the use of the Welsh language and bilingualism could support business growth and economic development - and how economic development can support increased use of the Welsh language.

She said:

"I would urge everyone with an interest in both economic development and the promotion of the Welsh language to participate in the consultation as the evidence presented will impact on future development in this very important field and inform future policy.

"We are focusing our attention on factors that have specific and direct relevance to economic growth, the provision of jobs, the creation of wealth, and the well-being of the Welsh language. 
 
“We are looking for examples of best practice and want to hear from businesses that operate bilingually. We want to know how this helps boost their business and how it might have a knock on effect on the local economy and support the use of the Welsh language."
 
The Minister has said she anticipates there will be important findings from the Group for Welsh language and economic policy.
