Video encourages engagement with Primary Authority

Primary Authority Needs You, produced by BRDO (Better Regulation Delivery Office), features input from a cross-section of local authority regulators and answers their questions about the scheme.

It’s available on the BIS You Tube site and from the dedicated enforcing-authorities page on BRDO’s website where officers can also download a survey and a self-assessment form which provides helpful advice tailored to the user.

BRDO Chief Executive Graham Russell said: “All local authorities are enforcing authorities, and there are primary authority businesses trading in every area, so they need to understand how the scheme affects their interactions.

“Early and open dialogue between an enforcing authority and a primary authority is the most effective way to resolve local issues, and we hope this video will encourage all officers to understand their part in making the scheme work to protect consumers and help growth.

“Officers who do not understand how they can make the scheme work will have less impact with their local businesses.”

Primary authorities share information about partner businesses through the secure Primary Authority IT System, which means enforcing authorities can arrive at a business better-equipped and clear about what to expect when undertaking compliance checks.

By providing feedback to primary authorities, enforcing officers can assist their colleagues in improving compliance at a national level, as well as locally.
