Changes to the way housing data is collected out to consultation

Plans to change the way housing data is collected by the Welsh Government is out for consultation.

The consultation is seeking views on changing the frequency of some data collected in order to be able to accommodate requests for additional new data. The proposals include moving the publication of information relating to social housing sales, new house building and some information relating to homelessness from quarterly to annual release. Data relating to social landlords’ possessions and evictions will no longer be collected.

Huw Lewis, Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage said:

"We are keen to find out people’s views about these proposed changes so that the Welsh Government’s statistics team are able to provide the best service to their customers. These proposed changes will provide more clarity to data providers, and will also allow the statistics team to accommodate new demands for additional housing statistics."

The consultation will be available on the Welsh Government website http://wales.gov.uk/consultations/statistics/housingdata/?lang=en&status=open . The closing date for responses is 15 July 2011 and responses can be sent to stats.housing@wales.gsi.gov.uk .
