London 2012 test event tickets on sale
BMX, basketball and beach volleyball will be among the 'London Prepares' series.
If you missed out on the chance to apply for tickets to next summer's Olympics or want to get a flavour of what London 2012 will be like, this could be your chance.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has announced that tickets for some of its first test events this summer are on sale to the public.
The events, which will be known as the London Prepares series, include the first competitive sports to take place on the Olympic Park and will feature top athletes from around the world. The events on sale now are:
- The Hadleigh Farm Mountain Bike International at Hadleigh Farm, Essex, on 31 July 2011
- The Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International on Horse Guards Parade, London, between 9 and 14 August
- The London International Basketball Invitational at the Basketball Arena in the Olympic Park, London, between 16 and 21 August
- The third round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series at the BMX Track in the Olympic Park, London, between 19 and 20 August
LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe said: “These events provide us with vital opportunities to test our venues, but also test our staff, our technologies and planning assumptions. They will also provide people with a fantastic opportunity to see some world class sport in these venues ahead of the Games – a snapshot of what is to come next year.”
Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster priced at between £5 and £35 and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
Between now and the Games, LOCOG will run a number of test events at all of its venues to test factors such as the sporting field of play, timing and scoring systems, and how people move around venues. Other events that LOCOG will be ticketing include hockey, wheelchair tennis and diving.
