New pledge to improve business support in Welsh

The Welsh Assembly Government and the Welsh Language Board yesterday Wednesday 5 August signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to improve the provision of business advice and support through the medium of Welsh.

The agreement was announced on the Eisteddfod Maes by the Deputy First Minister, and Minister for the Economy and Transport, Ieuan Wyn Jones.

“This new approach demonstrates our commitment to helping businesses promote the use of the Welsh Language," said Mr Jones.

"The agreement will see both parties undertake a range of measures to improve the already high standards available to Welsh companies, and will include the provision of business support services from the Assembly Goverment in both Welsh and English."

Meri Huws, Chair of the Welsh Language Board, said:

“The Welsh Language Board welcomes this agreement, which will ensure a close working relationship with the new service.”

“Using Welsh helps businesses in Wales to succeed  - by serving their customers better, by building distinctive Welsh brands, and by strengthening links with local communities. Mainstreaming the Welsh language into key business support services will ensure that all business clients are aware of the many benefits of using Welsh.”
