Scottish Policing Performance Framework, 2010-11

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published the Scottish Policing Performance Framework Annual Report, 2010-11.

The publication presents statistics on 37 performance indicators and eight context indicators, giving, where available, data and trend analysis from 2007-08, the first year of the Scottish Policing Performance Framework (SPPF).

The main findings include the following:

  • Service Response: Complaints about police officers and police staff. The number of complaint cases in Scotland in 2010-11 decreased by 388 to 4,310, a decrease of 8.3 per cent from the previous year. Decreases were recorded by seven of the eight police forces.
  • Public Reassurance and Community Safety: Number of recorded crimes and offences and detection. The total number of crimes and offences recorded by the police in Scotland in 2010-11 fell by 5.6 per cent from the previous year.
  • Criminal Justice and Tackling Crime: Number and percentage of reports submitted to the Procurator Fiscal within 28 calendar days. The percentage of reports submitted to the Procurator Fiscal within 28 calendar days of caution and charge in 2010-11 has increased by 5 percentage points since 2007-08 and by 1.6 percentage points since 2009-10.
  • Sound Governance and Efficiency: Value of efficiency savings generated by forces. The total cashable savings generated by police forces in Scotland in 2010-11 were £80.350 million.
