HCA Academy recognises the best in the sector

Training providers, academic institutions and professional bodies in the place-making sector are being invited to submit their products for recognition under a new scheme from the HCA Academy.

The Place-making Recognition Scheme will create a list of recognised learning programmes, resources and best practice case studies. This will help practitioners to identify programmes that will equip them with the skills and knowledge to lead projects, improve partnerships and create great places.

Gill Taylor, HCA Academy chief executive and HCA director of skills and knowledge, said:
There’s a need for a national scheme that allows organisations to demonstrate the quality of their products. We’re looking for products that share our values and our commitment to ensuring place-making professionals can access the high-quality learning, skills and knowledge."

The scheme will open for submissions up to four times a year. An independent panel will assess all applications. All products will be expected to pass a series of quality assurance tests. Once approved, the recognition logo can be used on learning materials and resources as a stamp of approval.

A successful pilot ran in August. Products that received the seal of approval include a sustainable communities and regeneration masterclass for senior managers run by the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH); a CIH course for community activists and tenant board members; and an MA in local and regional regeneration run by Leeds Metropolitan University.
