Green light for NHS projects
Patients to benefit from a range of new facilities.
Six health developments totalling over £69 million across the country have been given the go ahead.
Patients in Lanarkshire will benefit from three new health centres totalling a value of £45.7 million and a £7.5 million child and adolescent mental health unit in Tayside will serve patients from the Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland and Tayside areas after business plans were approved for each.
A Health Campus Project in Inverurie and a replacement for St Brendan’s Hospital in Western Isles have also received initial agreement, allowing plans for both projects to progress onto the next stage.
Health Secretary Alex Neil said:
“Having the right health facilities and services, in the right place is important to patients across Scotland and that is why I am delighted that such a wide range of projects have taken a significant step forward.
“By developing purpose build, modern community health facilities for our rural communities we will ensure that patients the length and breadth of the country can be treated in the best possible surroundings.
“This significant investment in health building projects clearly sets out the strength of our commitment to the NHS in Scotland, and will mean that we can provide more sustainable, high quality and continually improving health care services close to home right across the country.”

NHS Tayside received approval for the full business case for a North of Scotland Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), which is due to be completed and operational by early 2015. This development will create modern, state of the art facilities for assessment and treatment.
NHS Lanarkshire received approval for the full business case for health centres in East Kilbride, Kilsyth and Wishaw, which are hoped will be completed by summer 2015.
NHS Grampian received initial agreement to create a new health and social care hub in Inverurie.
NHS Western Isles received initial agreement to build a replacement for St Brendan’s Hospital.
