Socitm Scotland 2013 to showcase digital delivery of public services

Socitm's third conference for Scotland, entitled 'Delivering Public Services for the Digital Age', will take place at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on Wednesday 18 September 2013.

Scottish public, third and private sector ICT managers and staff have a key role to play in ensuring that Scotland exploits its digital strengths to take full advantage of the economic, social and environmental opportunities offered by the digital age. The conference programme aims to provide delegates with the knowledge to deliver the big ideas on the ground, through a stimulating combination of plenary sessions, interactive workshops and networking.

Given the importance of digital skills in the job market, Angela Constance MSP, Minister for Youth Employment, will deliver the Keynote Address.  Developing digital skills, in the young and old, for home and for work, is essential because Scotland faces a digital skills shortage.  This, and the action plan to address it, will be covered by Polly Purvis of ScotlandIS.  Jane Morgan, Deputy Director of Digital Public Services for The Scottish Government, will present its perspective on the challenges of, and progress in, delivering public services digitally.

Pupils from Bellshill Academy will demonstrate and explain how their "iPad per pupil" project over the last two years has changed their educational attainment.  The Academy teachers will explain the project's challenges!  Attainment also features in the sessions on modern apprenticeships and in the presentations about Socitm's Graham Williamson Research Award project and the Top Talent Scotland Programme.

Cost-saving is a constant theme for everyone, and an interactive session will show how mobile working has achieved economies in service delivery, namely housing repairs.

So whether you are interested in the above, Open/Big Data, how shared services are delivered in the NHS, improving your Better connected results, or simply your continuing professional development, please book now and join your colleagues at Socitm Scotland on the 18 September.
