Sir Douglas Haig´s war diary: listen online to extracts

Voices of the Armistice, The National Archives´ season of podcasts to mark the 90th anniversary of the Armistice, continues with extracts from Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig´s War Diary.

As well as giving insights into the diplomatic proceedings leading up to the 11 November 1918, the four extracts offer personal observations by Haig, the Commander in Chief of the British armies in France and Flanders, on the state of the German army and what he believed should be the terms of the Armistice.

The National Archives holds a copy of Sir Douglas Haig´s war diary and the podcasts have been produced with the kind permission of the National Library of Scotland and the current Earl Haig.

The Voices of the Armistice series features other fascinating podcasts, bringing to life soldiers´ private war diaries, letters and cards. The series, with new podcasts to include extracts from the Treaty of Versailles, will continue until 21 November.
