LSN takes coaching expertise to Nigeria

A seven day ‘coaching for entrepreneurship’ programme has been run by LSN with the British Council in Nigeria.

Earlier this year LSN ran a ‘coaching for entrepreneurship’ programme funded by the British Council in Nigeria. The aim of the programme was to train the delegates in Solution-Focused coaching skills and using these skills to help develop entrepreneurship in others.

The programme lasts for seven days and the 13 delegates, who comprised heads of business schools in Nigerian universities, business advisers and representatives from Nigerian charitable and commercial agencies, attended the first part of the programme at LSN’s head office in London. Over the first, very interactive four days they were introduced to entrepreneurship and the Solution-Focused coaching skills that they can use to develop entrepreneurship in others.

They also had access to online learning materials developed by LSN and our technology partner, Learning Resources International, and the option of being assessed for an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 coaching qualification.

On their return to Nigeria, the delegates held the first of a series of coaching sessions with their young potential entrepreneurs. They continue to be supported by ongoing coaching sessions with their allocated LSN coach, using both telephone and Skype. LSN is also running extra group development workshops using video-conferencing.

Initial feedback from the delegates has been very positive and they have related instances of changes in management style to incorporate coaching techniques.
