IPCC investigation following man's death in Stockport, Greater Manchester

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has begun an independent investigation following the death of a man in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The IPCC understands, at this time, that Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to an address on Hall Street, near Offerton, shortly after 8pm on Thursday 22 June. On forcing entry to the property they discovered a man with injuries which later proved fatal.

The IPCC was informed by GMP soon after; an IPCC investigator attended the post incident procedure last night and took initial accounts from the officers involved as well as viewing body worn video footage.

Today (23 June) IPCC investigators are at the scene conducting enquiries.

The investigation is in its early stages and we are working hard to establish the circumstances around this incident, and we will continue to gather relevant information.

All the police officers involved in the incident are being treated as witnesses at this time.
