IPCC witness appeal following incident in Clapton

The IPCC is appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly assaulted by a police officer in east London.

Police were present at a cordon for an unrelated matter at around 5pm on Friday 5 May, close to the junction of Almack Road and Powerscroft Road, Clapton, E5, when the incident occurred.

A man repeatedly approached police officers at the cordon, before being involved in an incident with one officer in which he sustained a cut to his head. A referral was made to the IPCC by the Metropolitan Police Service on 11 May and a decision was made to independently investigate the officer’s use of force.

IPCC investigators will also be carrying out enquiries in the local area this evening (Monday 19 June).
