Michael Grant has been elected as the President of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT at its AGM on Wednesday 13th March 2019. Michael, Associate Director at Harvey Nash plc, takes over from Chris Rees, for a one-year term.

Michael yesterday said:

“It is a huge honour to be elected as our new President and to be able to represent the IT profession. The role comes with many challenges, not the least of which in an era of fake news and lack of trust in social media platforms, is to strive and ensure that IT is seen to be good for society. BCS is already very well positioned to influence government, education and all levels, and I hope to be able to play my part in continuing those conversations.

“I will be supporting and communicating our strategy throughout the next year, focusing on our work in the area of education, which is very much a personal passion of mine. I also look forward to meeting many of our Members across the world and to encouraging more to join an institute that will enhance professionalism within their careers both now and for future years.”

Michael’s own career in IT spans more than 35 years and he brings to his new post a great deal of passion and knowledge. He first entered the technology field in the flight simulation industry. He then worked in a variety of international marketing and corporate communications roles at director and vice-president level within various IT companies and founded an ICT specialist recruitment company for senior executives in marketing and sales across Europe.

Michael has a strong interest in education and is a trustee of fifteen schools that are part of the University of Chichester Academy Trust. He yesterday said:

“I am passionate about education and BCS works extremely hard in this area, not just at school level - but in industry where I’m pleased to say BCS has recently seen 10,000 new starters for digital apprenticeships.”
