OE Weekly Briefing: A very different Brexit year lies ahead

Open Europe’s Policy Analyst David Shiels, provides the last Weekly Briefing of 2019 following the Withdrawal Agreement Bill passing last week in the House of Commons at Second Reading (a debate and vote on the general principles of the Bill) by 358 votes to 234 – a majority of 124.

The remaining stages of the Bill are expected to have a smooth passage through Parliament next month. That would mean that on 31 January 2020, the United Kingdom will cease to be a member of the European Union, and negotiations on the future UK-EU relationship will begin in earnest.
