Supporting Young Review recommendations on Police and Crime Plans
Equality and Human Rights Commission Executive Director, Melanie Field, responded to the Young Review report on Police and Crime Plans, published yesterday
"It’s unsurprising that BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) people are still three times more likely to be stopped and searched by the police than White people when a commitment to address race inequalities is missing from the majority of Police and Crime Plans across England and Wales.
"Our report Healing a divided Britain provided evidence that race inequality remains entrenched and far-reaching across all areas of life in modern Britain. We therefore support the Young Review’s recommendation for these plans to set out how police forces will meet their legal duty to advance equality, and look forward to it bringing us one step closer to a fairer Britain."
