DTI PUBLISHES INSPECTORS REPORT ON MIRROR GROUP NEWSPAPERS PLC

The report by the Inspectors appointed to investigate the affairs and membership of Mirror Group Newspapers Plc has been published today.

The two Inspectors, the Hon Sir John Thomas and Raymond Turner FCA were appointed by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, in June 1992 under Sections 432 and 442 of the Companies Act 1985.

The Department is considering the report and taking legal advice before deciding on whether directors disqualification proceedings are appropriate.

Action has already been taken by various regulatory authorities in respect of many of the events described by the inspectors but all relevant authorities and professional bodies need to consider whether any further action is justified.
