CONSENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A GAS-FIRED POWER STATION

Limited to build an 860 MW gas-fired power station at Marchwood,
Hampshire.
In a Written Statement, Mr Wilson said:
"I have today decided to grant consent under section 36 of the
Electricity Act 1989 to Marchwood Power Ltd for the construction of a
860 gas-fired power station at Marchwood in Hampshire. The station
has also today been given clearance as a gas-fired station under
section 14 of the Energy Act 1976 and planning permission for the
station has been deemed to be granted subject to 50 conditions agreed
with the New Forest District Council and the Hampshire County
Council."
Notes for Editors:
1. Consent to build and operate power stations with a capacity
greater than 50 megawatts (MW) is required under section 36 of the
Electricity Act 1989. Planning permission has been deemed to be
granted under section 90(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act
1990. Approval under Section 14 (1) of the Energy Act 1976 to
construct power stations of 10 MW and above which are to be fuelled
by natural gas or by oil was also given.
