Commenting on
today’s A-Level results, Minister for Universities and Science,
David Willetts said,
“Congratulations to all those receiving their A-Level results
today after many years of hard work.
“There will be more students at university this autumn than ever
before and we are repeating the 10,000 extra places this year.
“Already more than 338,000 applicants have achieved the grades
they need and are now off to university. For those who don’t get
the results they had hoped for, there are nearly 30,000 courses
with vacancies available in clearing.
“It is also worth looking at the other options including studying
part time, with other organisations offering degrees, or looking
for an apprenticeship. You can also choose to reapply next year.
Under our new reforms graduates will have to make a greater
contribution towards the cost for their degree, but there will be
more generous financial support available while you study and
fairer repayment arrangements when you leave university.”
